Delhi Police has roped in Bollywood actor Sidharth Malhotra, who requested Delhiites to make the city roads safer by shunning drunk driving and not performing stunts while riding. The

32-year-old actor, who is currently shooting for his upcoming film "Aiyaary" in the capital, joined the road safety activity, organised by Delhi Traffic Police at India Gate, to

spread awareness on anti-drunken driving and anti-stunt riding. "Please abide by the traffic rules. Let's make Delhi roads safer, so that people can drive easily and avoid

accidents. Hopefully, this will make a difference and our authorities will make sure, we are safer," said Malhotra. Malhotra, who himself is an avid rider advised youngsters to rely on

app-based cab services whenever they attend parties. He added, "It is not only about you, it is also about your friends, family and other people on the road. Please keep the spirit

alive, Delhi. Roam around, have fun but be in control and be responsible. Today, you can call a cab whenever you want. So, please use such apps. Please don't drink and drive." As

per the data provided by Delhi Police, a large number of road fatalities are caused due to drunken driving and stunt driving. The most vulnerable segment affected by these accidents are the

youths (18 to 49 years). Police press release said that youth are influenced by movies, where they imitate the stunts in real life, without taking proper precaution. Just last week, two

teenagers fell prey to stunt riding when a 15-year old was killed, and his 19-year-old neighbour was injured, after a bike stunt went horribly wrong. The victim, identified as Mohammad Umar

Sheikh was performing some stunt near a traffic signal, when he lost control of the bike. The two teenagers were taken to a nearby hospital where Sheikh succumbed to his injuries, while

Mohammad Anas was critical. According to Police, Sheikh was a Class 8 student and his family had gifted him the KTM Duke bike, worth Rs 1.3 lakh, about a month ago. (_With inputs from
