Three candidates declared uncontested winners by scrutiny committee of the Gujarat University. The battle for acquiring power posts in the executive council of state’s biggest varsity will
be for 10 seats now. On Saturday, the Gujarat University (GU) scrutiny committee declared three candidates as uncontested winners from a total of 13 seats that were to go for polls. The
election is slated for September 30, a day that day will also witness action for three seats of board of accounts. The uncontested winners for the executive council, also known as the
syndicate body, include Prof Nisha Shah, Prof Vijayalakshmi Chari and Devang Nanavati. Although Nanavati is known as a BJP man, Congress members in GU expressed support for all three
members. With only one candidature withdrawn from the syndicate polls till Friday, the number of candidates came to 34. However, on Saturday, as many as 15 forms were withdrawn. As of now,
19 people are contesting for 10 seats in the syndicate body and nine are in fray for three seats of board of accounts. To win maximum seats in both the significant councils, BJP and Congress
are busy strategising further.
