As promised, Disney unveiled the long-awaited trailer for its first spinoff _Star Wars _feature, _Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, _today on _Good Morning America. _Watch it above. Directed by
Gareth Edwards, _Rogue One _takes place prior to 1977’s _Star Wars _and revolves around a gang of rebel spies who steal the Death Star plans, which ultimately are uploaded on R2-D2. Details
on the film have been tighter than Fort Knox, and the teaser comes as a big revelation of what’s to come. Apparently, neither Jedis nor the Force will have a starring role in this movie,
though there’s been whispers about a Darth Vader cameo. He’s not seen here, but it looks like the Emperor is with his red guards. Oscar nominee Felicity Jones plays chief spy Jyn Erso (“This
is a rebellion, isn’t it? I rebel,” declares her character), while Riz Ahmed and Diego Luna are resistance fighters assisting in the heist. Ben Mendelsohn portrays a dominant Imperial
villain. Forest Whitaker, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen and Mads Mikkelsen also star. In addition, there’s a number of AT-ATs wreaking havoc on a tropical beach. But the cameo that has _Star Wars
_fans giddy this morning is red-haired rebel leader Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), last seen in 1983’s _Return of the Jedi_ and 2005’s _Revenge of the Sith__. _She calls Jones’ Erso
“reckless, aggressive and undisciplined”. Chris Weitz and Gary Whitta wrote the _Rogue One _screenplay based on an idea by John Knoll. Similar to last year with _Star Wars: The Force
Awakens,_ Christmas comes early with _Rogue One _opening on December 16. _Force Awakens _broke the domestic FSS record with $247.97M on its way to $2B worldwide. Can _Rogue One _possibly
outstrip _Force Awakens’ _opening? WATCH ON DEADLINE The Edwards-helmed movie marks the first time that the _Star Wars _story has been told on the big screen outside the confines of its
episodic structure. So what do you think of the trailer?
