LAWRENCE CAMPBELL HAS CLAIMED HIS GIRLFRIEND 'GHOSTED' HIM AFTER SHE CASHED IN HIS $5MILLION CANADIAN DOLLARS LOTTERY PRIZE AND THEN DID A RUNNER BEFORE HE 'FOUND HER IN BED
WITH ANOTHER GUY' 22:50, 01 Jun 2025 A Canadian man is suing his girlfriend, claiming she collected his £2.6million lottery prize before “ghosting” him. Lawrence Campbell, from
Winnipeg, said he bought a lottery ticket that turned out to be $5million Canadian dollars (£2.6million) but couldn’t cash in his fortune because he’d lost his wallet and ID. He claimed his
“loyal and committed” long-time partner Krystal McKay collected the winnings herself, before doing a runner and stopping replying to him. “He set out to visit a few of her known spots where
she would party and sure enough after some investigation, he found her; in bed, with another guy,” Lawrence’s lawyer told CTV News. “She ghosted him, refused to take his calls or answer his
messages, she blocked him on her social media accounts; and even took out a protection order.” According to Lawrence’s claim, on January 19, 2024 he went to CanCo convenience store on Isabel
Street to buy himself a 6/49 lottery ticket. Article continues below Lawrence said to reporters that he’d got the lottery ticket as a birthday gift for his girlfriend. “She had been asking
me for three weeks to get a ticket, but I never went and got one,” Campbell said. “Then we drove by one, and I was like ‘OK, I might as well go get you one right now.’” After buying the
ticket Lawrence handed it to Krystal, forgetting about the ticket until he found it on the ground at a friend’s house when he scanned the barcode. “…that’s when they found out he won, he
couldn’t believe it. He had won the Lotto 6/49 jackpot,” the claim reads. The pair later spoke to someone at the Western Canada Lottery Corporation who insisted that Lawrence was ineligible
and unable to get the winnings as he didn’t have valid government-issued ID, according to the claim. As an alternative, Krystal was allowed to pick up the money instead. The claim said
Krystal immediately deposited the millions into her bank account, as Campbell didn’t have an active account. In the days that followed the win, the claim alleges Krystal did not return to
the hotel room she had been sharing with Lawrence. Article continues below After eventually tracking Krystal down and finding her with a new squeeze, Lawrence claims she “ghosted” him
because she wanted to be the “new guy”. Krystal denied the allegations and is planning to respond in court, according to local media.
