MAN IMPRISONED FOR ALMOST 40 YEARS AT HMP WAKEFIELD FOR A KILLING HE DID NOT COMMIT DESCRIBED THE PRISON AS THE 'WORST ENVIRONMENT IMAGINABLE' 07:00, 31 May 2025 When Peter
Sullivan was finally released from HMP Wakefield after almost four decades locked up for a crime he didn't commit, he described the notorious Category A prison as the "worst
environment" where innumerable "horrors" were done to him. Nicknamed 'Monster Mansion' because of the number of notorious criminals held there over the years, HMP
Wakefield, in West Yorkshire, is home to about 750 prisoners. among them being some of the most high-profile, high-risk sex offenders and murderers in the UK. Mr Sullivan tasted freedom this
month after 38 long years wrongly jailed in 1987 for the murder of 21-year-old Diane Sindall, who was subjected to a frenzied sexual attack in Birkenhead, Merseyside, as she walked home
from a shift. READ MORE: Schitt's Creek star Dan Levy gets green light for Netflix 'family crime comedy'READ MORE: Bicester firefighter's family say 'she will always
be our hero' as tributes flood in The Criminal Cases Review Commission referred Mr Sullivan's case back to the appeal court last year after fresh testing found a DNA profile
pointing to an unknown attacker in semen samples preserved from the crime scene. Now 68, Mr Sullivan descibed his 14,113 days in custody as the "worst environment imaginable". He
said: "I am simply anxious to return to my loved ones and family as I've got to make the most of what is left of the existence I am granted in this world "I am aware of how
cruel time can be to a person stripped of their youth and mobility, sight and hearing. I have had to silently endure this and watch it stripped from me in the worst environment imaginable, I
will not comment on the horrors done to me over that time, there are too many." Here are some of the monsters inside the mansion." Article continues below Here, we look at the
infamous criminals who have been incarcerated at the 'Monster Mansion'... REYNHARD SINAGA Mr Sullivan has shared his time behind bars with Britain's most infamous rapist
Reynhard Sinaga, who was found guilty of assaulting 136 young men. In a shocking turn last July, the vile predator was assaulted in prison, narrowly escaping with his life. After his
original sentencing, his minimum term was extended alongside fellow offender Joseph McCann, 35, who was jailed last year at the Old Bailey for 37 offences involving 11 women and children.
The judgement said the "multiple life sentences remain and whether either is in fact ever released will depend upon the assessment of risk by the Parole Board at the end of the minimum
terms". The ruling states that "neither man has shown any remorse and the long-term psychological damage for at least some of the victims in both trials is profound and will only
be understood in the years to come". ROBERT MAUDSLEY Dubbed 'Hannibal', Muadsley is a hero to some. Cooped up in a glass box in the prison's depths after he was sent down
for throttling John Farrell in March 1974 and then offing three more while behind bars. Two of those gruesome killings took place within the walls of HMP Wakefield, where he strangled and
shanked Salney Darwood before stashing the corpse under his bunk. He went on to butcher sex offender William Roberts, bashing his skull against a wall. Maudsley told officers to keep him
away from any child sex offenders as he would always attempt to kill them. At 71, Maudsley, the UK's longest-serving criminal, was shifted from his cell in March to HMP Whitemoor,
Cambridgeshire, after he packed in a hunger strike. IAN HUNTLEY The nick's roster of infamous inmates includes Huntley, the monster who brutally murdered ten-year-old girls Holly Wells
and Jessica Chapman in 2002. Huntley was found guilty of a double child murder committed in Cambridgeshire in 2002. He murdered them likely via asphyxiation and disposed of their bodies in
a ditch close to RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk. The bodies were discovered on 17 August 2002. CHARLES BRONSON Another notorious criminal Charles Bronson, who did time alongside Huntley, called
the prison 'London Zoo' and admitted he was itching to "go over and knock out" the vile child murderer. Bronson is often referred to as the “most violent prisoner in
Britain”. He has spent the major of the past four decades in prison for various violent crimes. During that time Bronson married ex-Corrie actress Paula Williamson. HAROLD SHIPMAN Shipman,
dubbed 'Dr Death' for killing roughly 250 patients while a GP, committed suicide in his cell at HMP Wakefield in 2004, having been imprisoned since 2000. During his career, the
doctor killed mostly elderly women with lethal doses of diamorphine and then tampered with their medical records to avoid suspicion. LEVI BELLFIELD Serial killer Bellfield is the first
criminal to be given two full life sentences. He has been found guilty of killing 13-year-old Milly Dowler, Marsha McDonnell and Amelie Delagrange, as well as the attempted murder of Kate
Sheedy. The one-time nightclub bouncer has also been linked to several other deaths. COLIN IRELAND Another serial killer, Ireland was known as the 'Gay Slayer' after preying on
homesexual men in London. He was convicted of five murders in the early 90s and reminaed in prison until his death in 2012. Ireland sought men who liked the passive role and sado-masochism,
so he could readily restrain them as they initially believed it was a sexual game. Ireland was heterosexuals but pretended to be gay only to befriend potential victims JEREMY BAMBER One of
the most notorious inmates currently living at HMP Wakefield, Bamber is responsible for the brutal massacre of his entire family, dubbed the 'White House Farm muders', in 1985. The
victims included Bamber's adoptive parents, Nevill and June Bamber; his adoptive sister, Sheila Caffell; and his sister's six-year-old twin sons. The prosecution argued after
committing the murders to secure a large inheritance, Bamber had placed the rifle in the hands of his 28-year-old sister, who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, to make the scene appear
to be a murder–suicide. Article continues below SIDNEY COOKE Wakefield is also where you'll find Cooke, a 98-year-old child molester and serial killer once dubbed the 'UK's
most notorious paedophile'. He's had his parole rejected ten times and is serving a life sentence for a string of horrific sex attacks on two brothers. In 1999, Cooke was ordered
to serve a minimum of five years at Wakefield Prison, and he's been incarcerated ever since. It's alleged that he was part of the notorious 'Dirty Dozen' gang, linked to
a series of unsolved crimes. Retired detective David Bright expressed his deep concerns, fearing that children may be buried in graves "around the country". He added: "He is
an evil, evil man."
