RECORD VIEW SAYS 'IT’S LITTLE SURPRISE SOME SCOTS WOULD CONSIDER LEAVING THE UNION TO ESCAPE A FARAGE-LED UK.' 04:30, 02 Jun 2025 The idea of Nigel Farage becoming prime minister
seemed ridiculous not so long ago. But the collapse of the Conservative party after 14 dismal years in power has presented the Reform UK leader with a unique opportunity. He is already
cementing himself as a preferred choice for right-leaning voters across England. Reform’s rise has also been aided by Labour’s difficult return to power at Westminster. A series of unpopular
policy decisions has overshadowed much of the good work Keir Starmer has done in repairing the UK’s tarnished reputation. The next general election may not take place until 2029 - an
eternity in the fast moving world of politics - and Reform’s popularity could wane in that time. Article continues below But many Scots are already worried about the prospect of Farage
entering Downing Street. A new poll suggests support for Scottish independence rises to 58 per cent if the Reform UK leader was to enter power. JOIN THE DAILY RECORD WHATSAPP COMMUNITY! Get

polls in their quest to secure a second referendum. It’s little wonder John Swinney has been repeatedly warning Farage winning power is a distinct possibility. Support for independence has
risen in recent years but many remain to be convinced by the idea. But it’s little surprise some Scots would consider leaving the Union to escape a Farage-led UK. Despite his
man-of-the-people charade, Farage is an arch Thatcherite who wants to govern in the interests of his rich pals. That means dismantling the NHS, ripping-up workers’ rights and handing out
tax-breaks to the super-rich. Nobody who believes in building a better future for our children would want anything to do with such a regime. So it’s up to progressive parties - whether
that’s SNP or Labour - to offer a positive alternative to make sure Farage never becomes Prime Minister. COURAGE OF CHRIS Sir Chris Hoy has revealed his campaign to encourage men to get
tested for prostate cancer has already saved 1000 lives. That could well be the tip of the iceberg as many more men will no doubt get themselves tested in response to the Olympic hero’s
heartbreaking story. The dad-of-two has received a terminal cancer diagnosis after prostate cancer spread to other parts of his body. Sir Chris is convinced he would have had a better chance
of survival if he had been tested earlier. But he has vowed to try and bring something positive from his ordeal by making sure others get themselves checked out. Article continues below He
also wants a better testing regime in the NHS so that men in their 40s are included. All Record readers will be hoping that Sir Chris can benefit from new advances in cancer treatment to
spend as much time as possible with his wife Sarra and two kids Callum and Chloe. And we are with him all the way in his fight to save as many lives as he can.
