figures showed a slump in net migration - a top priority of the UK Government.
The figure stood at a provisional 431,000 in the year to December 2024, down 50% from 860,000.
This is the largest numerical drop on record.
The previous biggest calendar year fall was during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic, when net migration dropped from 184,000 to 93,000.
Net migration is the difference between the number of people coming to live in the UK long-term and the number of people leaving to live in another country.
The figures came from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
