MANY OF US WILL OPEN A BOTTLE OF OIL AND DISCARD THE PULL TAB BUT IT'S THERE FOR A GOOD REASON SALLY MCLEAN Lifestyle Editor, DANIELLE KATE WROE and ABI MEEHAN 13:07, 05 May 2025 If

you're cooking using oil, olive, sunflower or vegetable, you'll know that many bottles come with a small pull tab which you have to remove when you open the lid. Let's be

honest, most of us will pull it off and fling it in the bin because it has no use, does it? But this clever little tab is there for a good reason and folk are just realising that it can save

you money and make your life that bit easier too. That's because it's actually there to control the speed at which you pour the oil out. Yes, really. Those who cook regularly will

know that controlling the flow from a bottle of oil as you pour it into the pan is tricky. One false move and you can end up with more than you bargained for, meaning you are wasting money

and risk a meal saturated in oil too. And that's where the simple pull tab comes in. It's not just there to keep the oil safely inside the bottle, that's what the lid is for.

Nor is it to show if the bottle has been opened. Article continues below In fact, it should be removed from the bottle, then turned over so the ring pull is facing downwards and popped back

into the bottle neck. By doing this, it helps to control the speed at which the oil pours and the revelation has been hailed as a 'game-changer' for cooks everywhere, reports the

Mirror. The lightbulb moment for many came when @foodies on posted a video on social media sharing the actual reason for the tab being there. It shows a person removing it and then inverting

it before reinserting it into the neck of the bottle again. This creates small openings around the edge which allows greater control when pouring. The video was reposted by the The
