Coventry City’s Milan van Ewijk continues to be linked with interest from higher placed clubs, with Everton the latest to be named in association with the full-back. It’s no surprise that

the Sky Blues defender has been the subject of speculation after an impressive first two seasons at the CBS Arena where he’s established himself as a regular and reliable fixture in the

team, playing exactly 100 games for the club and scoring four goals. Joe Rimmer, head of football at our sister title, Liverpool Echo, has been speculating about the potential for effective

targets who Toffees’ boss David Moyes could be looking at from the Championship. READ MORE: COVENTRY CITY FEEL GOOD FACTOR AT ODDS WITH CHAMPIONSHIP MAYHEM READ MORE: VIKTOR GYOKERES

TRANSFER: ARSENAL AND MAN UTD RIVAL RULE DEAL OUT IN HUGE TWIST He writes: “During his first spell at the club, Moyes found much success in the transfer market when dipping into the lower

leagues and the Championship in particular. Tim Cahill, Phil Jagielka and John Stones were all standout signings from England’s second tier and it’s a market the Scot is likely to be

monitoring as he considers targets this summer. “Chris Rigg is a player Everton have tracked but Sunderland’s promotion to the Premier League could scupper any move for the 17-year-old

starlet. “Yet there are other stars from the division who Moyes could turn to. Jobe Bellingham, brother of Real Madrid’s Jude, is said to be considering his next move despite helping

Sunderland to promotion and could find the perfect home to continue his progress at Everton. “Coventry ’s right-back Milan van Ewijk has been linked with the Toffees, Brazilian midfielder

Gustavo Hamer has impressed with beaten play-off finalists Sheffield United, while Liverpool’s Ben Doak, who spent last season on loan with Middlesbrough, is a player Moyes admires.” Van

Ewijk, aged 24, was linked with interest from Fulham and Turkish giants Galatasaray in the January transfer window, and while head coach Frank Lampard insisted the club didn’t receive any

bids, he did admit he wasn’t surprised about speculation surrounding such a “good player”. Asked about the reports in January, Lampard said: “He’s an attacking full-back and with all the

natural attributes he’s got I think he can get even better as well because there will and are things we work on with him to improve all the time. So it’s no wonder when he’s playing this way

that teams will look at him. “But with Milan, there certainly hasn’t been any bids. I would have been told that (if there had been) and maybe it’s just that he’s a good player.” Whether the

Dutchman will be the subject of firm interest this summer remains to be seen, and former Sky Blues loan player turned TV host and pundit, David Prutton, said: “Milan van Ewijk is at a good

age and has a decent-sized length of contract. Any movement means, hopefully, from a Coventry City point of view, that they are well remunerated, but also losing a player of that stature

weakens their bid to get into the Premier League.” Speaking to Football League World earlier this year, he added: “It’s imperative they get a good price. You’ve also got to take into account

the wishes of the player, but fundamentally, he is tied to that club, and he has done very well since he’s been there, so I think time will tell for that, but at 24, with a decent ability

to get forward on a football pitch and the athleticism and quality on the ball he shows, then potentially, there is a Premier League player there.” VERDICT: While the Sky Blues’ current

model is to cash in on the odd star player to help fund strengthening, right-back is a position that already requires attention due to the fact that Van Ewijk is the club’s only specialist

player in that position. So as it stands, Coventry are looking to add a right-back, not get rid of one. Every manager wants two competing for each position and Lampard is not going to weaken

his hand next season. However, City have been linked with £5m plus rated Aston Villa full-back Kaine Kesler-Hayden, who spent last season on loan at Preston, and he appears to be a

like-for-like option if the Sky Blues received a tempting bid for Van Ewijk. DO YOU THINK CITY WILL CASH IN VAN EWIJK THIS SUMMER? CLICK HERE TO HAVE YOUR SAY. GET THE LATEST COVENTRY CITY
