to reduce the Indemnité de Sujétion Spéciale de Police (ISSP) payment for trainee officers, which can make up to 26% of their pay, and delay a pay rise. SGP-FO, the main union, has already

called for a national protest outside prefectures in major cities and outside the offices of the finance ministry in Paris on October 22. Alliance said that the ISSP “danger money” payment

and the delayed rise could cost officers up to €200 a month The move is expected to save €12m and Alliance general secretary Jean-Claude Delage told _Le Figaro_ it would hit recruits hard as

they were already the poorest paid. He feared it was no more than a “test run” for extending the cut across the police force and gendarmerie. Alliance police officers last month refused to

issue tickets for parking fines and other minor offences in protest against plans for prison reform and the prospect of an indefinite “strike” could put a hole in state funds. • In London,
