THIEVES BROKE INTO A CANNES HOTEL ROOM AND TOOK VALUABLES INTENDED FOR STARS TO WEAR ON THE RED CARPET A MILLION euros-worth of jewellery intended for stars to wear while walking up the red
carpet at the Cannes Film Festival has been stolen from a nearby hotel. An employee of jewellers Chopard, who was looking after the valuables, discovered the theft at 3.00 after a night out.
Thieves had broken her hotel window and ripped out a safe containing the jewellery. Police from Nice are investigating. Sources close to the festival organisers reportedly gave reassurance
that the Palme d’Or is safe. Chopard supplies the annual prize for best film (a 118g gold palm leaf worth €20,000) free of charge in a partnership deal with the festival.
