THERE IS A VERY SMALL VILLAGE IN NORTHUMBERLAND WITH A POPULATION OF JUST 70 PEOPLE AND ONE COMMUNITY PUB 10:12, 21 May 2025Updated 10:44, 21 May 2025 Northumberland is a place that is home
to an abundance of beautiful and rather quirky villages and there is one that, at the last count, had a population of just 85 people and is also regarded as a great place to go stargazing.
CHRONICLELIVE writes a lot about Northumberland, mainly down to the fact that there is so much to see and do there; from the stunning seascapes; dramatic castle backdrops, highly rated
beaches and, of course, the many great places to go for food and drink, including the chippy voted by our readers as the best for fish and chips in the whole of the North East. When you
think of Northumberland, larger places like Alnwick, Berwick and Morpeth probably come to mind, as well as places like Bamburgh, Seahouses and Hexham, but there is one village, that while
dwarfed by some of its neighbours, in both size and population, has a lot of history and a lot of character. And we're talking about Alwinton, which lies at the head of the Coquet
valley, on the edge of both the Otterburn Army Training Estate and the Northumberland National Park. The tiny village is actually just over 40 miles away from Newcastle city centre, but the
1 hour drive from town might as well be a million miles, as the contrast is huge. Census statistics from 2001 revealed that there were the very small number of 71 people residing in
Alwinton, which is since thought to have risen to the slightly larger sum of 85. While, given its size you might presume that Alnwinton is lacking in things that other towns and villages
have, it does actually have a local boozer, with The Rose & Thistle at the very heart of the community, as well as earning great reviews from visitors to the area,. Article continues
below Proud to offer their customers ' locally sourced dishes and refreshing drinks,' The Rose & Thistle currently has a score of 4.5 out of 5 on Trip Advisor, with one of the
most recent reviews of it reading: 'Tremendous place, friendly welcome, lovely atmosphere and great selection of delicious food to choose from' As well as having a number of great
routes for horse riding and mountain biking, Alwinton Car Park is a designated Dark Sky Discovery Site, with its uniquely dark skies mean it’s the perfect place to indulge in some
stargazing. JOIN OUR WHATSAPP COMMUNITIES ChronicleLive is now on WhatsApp and we want you to join our communities. We have a number of communities to join, so you can choose which one you
