JOBE BELLINGHAM'S SUNDERLAND DEPARTURE WOULD BE 'HUGE' CLIVE YOULTON 16:00, 31 May 2025 Ex-Sunderland defender Michael Gray has claimed that Jobe Bellingham’s potential
departure will be “huge” and has called on his former club to sign Premier League experienced players this summer. Bellingham has been reported as being close to signing for Borussia
Dortmund and following in the footsteps of his brother, Jude. In an interview with Betfred, Gray spoke about the impact of Bellingham’s potential departure. He said: “It’s huge. The thing
with Sunderland though, and we’re all on the same page, is that it’s a recruitment club. “That talk about Jobe Bellingham has been there pretty much since he walked through the door and you
have to bring his brother into the conversation and think ‘well if Jude Bellingham can be that good, then why can’t his brother be the same?’ so he’s talking to German clubs and I’m sure
there’s a lot of Premier League sides interested in him as well. “He’s a talent, there’s no question about that, so whoever signs him is going to get a real star.” Another on other clubs’
radars is Chris Rigg and Gray added: “Chris Rigg is somebody that I believe is a wonderful player and he’s got a super future ahead of him. "He loves Sunderland, so I’d like to think
that he’d be sticking around. I know there’s been speculation regarding Premier League clubs sniffing around him, but now that we’re in the Premier League, it might just give him the option
of sticking around for a year or more.” Article continues below Gray also touched on Sunderland’s recruitment policy and concluded: “I think it’s defensively we’ve got to look at because the
XI that started the play-off final didn’t include a single player that had played in the Premier League. “So that’s a concern but I’m sure it’s something that the club are looking at.
They’ve got to bring that experience in because if you can do that, then you give yourself that fighting chance.”
