MORNING IN GATESHEAD 01:00, 22 May 2025 A mindless motorist has been jailed after police were forced to use a stinger on his vehicle during a high-speed chase. Liam Allen, also known as

Dickinson, was on licence from prison when he travelled at more than double the speed limit, flouted red lights and drove on the wrong side of the road during the early morning pursuit in

Gateshead. A court heard that the 33-year-old's Vauxhall Astra was eventually stopped when a stinger was deployed but Allen and his passenger then attempted to flee on foot. Allen, of

Oak Square, in Teams, Gateshead, has now been locked-up for 32 weeks after he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving with no insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a

licence at Newcastle Magistrates' Court. Paul Anderson, prosecuting, said Allen had failed to stop for police on two occasions on May 17. Then, at 2.35am on May 18, a sergeant was on

shift in Bensham when he spotted Allen's vehicle. Mr Anderson continued: "The sergeant puts on his blues and twos. "The defendant begins the pursuit and drives through the

Gateshead area, through red lights and well in excess of the speed limit. He also drove into oncoming lanes. Fortunately, it's 2.35am and it's not a busy time. Article continues
