BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE SAY THEY ARE NOT TREATING THE INCIDENT AS SUSPICIOUS 17:13, 02 Jun 2025Updated 17:13, 02 Jun 2025 It has been confirmed that a person has died on the East Coast
Mainline. It is understood they were hit by a train and fatally injured. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 3pm on Monday, with British Transport Police, the North
East Ambulance Service, and the Great North Air Ambulance Service all present. Sadly, despite the best efforts of paramedics, the casualty was pronounced dead at the scene. A spokesperson
for the British Transport Police said: "We were called to an area of the line in Low Fell, Gateshead, shortly after 3.15pm today, 2 June, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the
coroner." All lines between Newcastle and Darlington were closed for around one-and-a-half hours, reopening at 4.41pm. Rail disruption is expected to continue until 6pm. Article
