on the busy road.

Japanese brand Muji sold minimalist clothing, homewares and more at 40-42 New Street and has outlived a great number of retailers on the busy Birmingham thoroughfare.

‌ It opened to customers in the city for the first time on Saturday, April 8, 2000.

It marked its closure with a brief sale last week before closing for good.

Muji first opened in Japan back in 1980 and it grew in popularity across Britain after it opened in London in 2001.

Last March, the European arm of Muji called in administrators and said that it would be restructuring the business, with no store closures or job losses expected.

Article continues below A rescue deal was secured the following month, according to reports.

Instagram user @LauraGale posted about the closure online writing 'goodbye Muji Birmingham'.

Federica Mirra commented: "Oh noooo!" while Emma Bowen said: "NOOOOOOOOOO! Literally the ONLY shop I can buy clothes."
