PLATFORM AGAINST MEGACRUISES HAS CALLED THE GOVERNMENT TO LIMIT THE NUMBER OF CRUISE SHIPS DOCKING IN MAJORCA AMID CONCERNS OVER "PUBLIC HEATH ISSUES" 13:34, 02 Jun 2025 A Majorcan
cruise platform is calling for a cruise ship crackdown over concerns regarding "public health issues." UK tourists planning on jumping on a boat to sail around the idyllic
Balearics must be warned, as the island hopes to slash the number of cruise ship arrivals per day. At the moment three ships and 8,000 passengers have permission to dock in Majorca each day,
but if new regulations are brought in, this could be limited to 4,000 people entering Palma by ship. Platform Against Megacruises has called for these restrictions to be put in place, with
the goal to help protect the environment and navigate overtourism in the Spanish hotspot. The organisation has argued the number of cruise ships landing on Majorca's shores is a
"public health issue," calling for the level of tourists to be brought down "until further studies are available." READ MORE: WARNING TO UK TOURISTS IN MAJORCA AND IBIZA

isn't." The current cruise ship restrictions in place are set to expire by the end of 2026, with the rules to be reviewed this year due to operators' scheduling, the Express
said. Balearic Port Authority data has estimated around 1.8 million people will arrive in Palma over the course of this year on 551 cruise ships. The figure highlighted how an additional
41,085 are projected to sail to the island this year on 47 extra boats. Majorca itself saw flocks of tourists entering the country, breaking records with 33 million tourists arriving at
Palma de Mallorca Airport in 2024. READ MORE: URGENT WARNING TO UK TOURISTS IN MAJORCA AS 60 GROUPS SET TO PROTEST This was a seven per cent increase from just one year earlier. Article

Majorca voiced their concerns to the government over cruise restrictions last October, after it was reported there had been an 18 per cent decline in the number of visitors to the island.
They said: "Don't demonise cruise passengers It is family tourism with a high spending power."
