inquest into the death of Jay Slater has heard his friends encouraged him to get a taxi back to their accommodation in Tenerife on the morning he went missing. The 19 year old vanished on
the Spanish island last year, sparking a massive search that lasted for a month. Now an inquest into his death has heard more details of the morning he disappeared after going back to an

to his own accomodation, with reports suggesting he had missed a bus. The inquest at Preston Coroner's Court heard that Jay's friend Ben Hargreaves had received a video call from
him at around 7.30am on the morning he went missing on June 17, 2024. Article continues below It was said that he had offered to pay for a taxi back to their accomodation on the phone call.
Jay had told him he didn't have money for a taxi before Ben made the offer. The court heard Brad told him: "Just get a taxi here and then jump out and don't pay for it or
we'll pay." Josh, a witness at the inquest who met Jay and his friends at the airport before swapping numbers and meeting up in Tenerife, said that he had heard the call and Jay
had 'still sounded under the influence' but was not distressed or 'begging for help or in danger'. The inquest also heard toxicology tests found Jay had ecstasy and
cocaine in his system, while Spanish tests also found ketamine. The apprentice bricklayer's family were present at the inquest today. But the friends he had travelled to Tenerife with,
Lucy Law and Brad Hargreaves, were not. Article continues below The court heard that Lucy was believed to be in Tenerife, with Brad also on holiday. The county's senior coroner, Dr
James Adeley said: "We can't find them. They have denied who they are and we have had police looking for them but we can't find them."
