account - urging them NOT to share details via texts. The motoring body has shared urgent guidance for millions of drivers who have a bank account amid a spate of fraud. In a recent post on


X (formerly Twitter), the agency cautioned: "Use GOV.UK for DVLA services or scammers may sneakily steal your personal details to commit fraud." It said: "Find out how these


#scams work and how to avoid or report them." Report misleading websites, emails, phone numbers, phone calls or text messages you think may be suspicious, the DVLA warns on its website.

messages, download attachments or click on any links in emails if you’re not sure they’re genuine." Article continues below Under its top tips online, the DVLA adds: "Fraudsters


will often send emails or text messages to unsuspecting victims asking them to confirm personal details, such as bank or payment information. They may even send messages that claim you are


entitled to a hefty vehicle tax refund. "DVLA will never ask you for your bank account details or ask you to confirm payment details. We will only ask you to confirm your personal


details by email or text if you have a live enquiry with us. "And vehicle tax refunds are issued automatically – never via an email with a link!" The DVLA's Phil Morgan said:


"There’s been an increase in the number of fake social media accounts that either claim to be DVLA or affiliated with us in some way. Article continues below "These accounts


promise to offer driving licence renewals or replacement documents at a speedier rate, however, an application made through a third-party company is not processed any quicker than one


received through our official GOV.UK services. "Aside from regularly reminding our customers of the importance of only using GOV.UK, we also encourage customers to be vigilant and to


familiarise themselves."
