School celebrated Oxfam’s National Close the Gap Day with some lunchtime art and petition signing.

“I’m pretty proud of the teachers for organising it.”


According to Oxfam, last year more than 150,000 people took part in 1596 events across the country in support of lobbying the government to take meaningful action towards Indigenous health


equality by 2030.


“It feels supportive, and it’s good to have people trying to close the gap for Indigenous people,” student Lawrence Davies said.


“It feels very supportive.”


The day was organised by history and geography head teacher Bindi Hayes.


“Our motto is give us a hand to close the gap,” she said as students painted together during Thursday’s lunch break.


“The best thing you can do is jump on Oxfam’s website to learn more, and lobby the government, write letters and sign an online petition.”
