FG Trade via istock In light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, AARP Foundation Experience Corps is pivoting from in-person tutoring to virtual for the 2020-2021 school year. Our tutoring
model will stay the same; only the way it’s delivered will change. Going virtual will enable our dedicated volunteers to continue helping students in their communities become better readers
without jeopardizing their own health and safety. Experience Corps is piloting this approach during the 2020–2021 school year to determine the extent of its effectiveness. Our virtual
tutoring pilot offers students support whether schools are fully remote, fully in-person, or some hybrid of the two on a staggered schedule. Working together on a video-based platform,
tutors will still be able to coach students in their reading skills, provide encouragement, and give them the opportunity to spend more time learning with a trusted and caring adult. The
coronavirus pandemic has caused untold disruptions in schools across the country, making programs like Experience Corps more vital than ever. We’re committed to giving students access to
consistent literacy support and caring intergenerational mentorship while keeping our volunteers safe — no matter what.
