AARP Foundation helped more than 1 million older adults living with low income secure more than $1 billion in income, benefits and refunds. Learn more
You have the power to change the lives of seniors in poverty.
1 in 3 older adults struggle to meet their basic needs. Your gift can help seniors secure good jobs, get the benefits they've earned, and stay connected to their communities.
Meet three heroes in community: Erika Murdoch in California, Jeannie Rubero in Pennsylvania, and Natosha Hayward in South Carolina. It takes passionate people around the country to reduce
poverty for and with older adults. Hear the stories of real-life heroes whom we’re proud to call partners and who are driving us all toward a future without senior poverty.
“It doesn’t seem like work to me … this is the right thing to do.”
According to her community, Erika Murdoch is “one of those that really wholeheartedly wants to help.” She feeds both body and soul for seniors like Tom McSpedden and Kepina Hasegawa.
Caring for her loved ones inspired Jeannie Rubero to seek out her dream job. She’s been directing services at the local senior center for more than 24 years, doing what she loves for people
she considers family.
“My life experiences make it almost impossible for me not to empathize.”
Natosha Hayward believes life led her to a career in service. As she says, “What better way to give back than to be able to help someone with the things that you learned from through life’s
obstacles?”
