ABSTRACT Extract: A survey of intestinal helminths and protozoa was conducted on 887 5-year-old Negro kindergarten children from New Orleans public schools. Thirty-one percent of the
children were found to be infected with one or more species of parasites. Nineteen percent harbored one or more species of medically important parasites. Seven pathogenic and four
nonpathogenic species were identified. Speculation: The prevalence of intestinal parasites in New Orleans kindergarten children was found to be high, although the average intensity of
infection was found to be low. The prevalence of intestinal parasitism in the lower socioeconomic strata of the United States will continue to decline as living conditions and educational
levels of this group are improved. SIMILAR CONTENT BEING VIEWED BY OTHERS HIGH INTESTINAL PARASITE INFECTION DETECTED IN CHILDREN FROM REGIÓN AUTÓNOMA ATLÁNTICO NORTE (R.A.A.N.) OF NICARAGUA
