Social activist, senior NC worker and retired labour officer, Haji Sheikh Muhammad Yousuf of Gund Kangan breathed his last on Saturday afternoon at SKIMS after a brief illness. He was 93. A
large number of people from different walks of life offered his Nimaz-e-Jinaza at Eidgah, Gund. The deceased was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard at Gund near Jamia Masjid. He was
also the father in law of Greater Kashmir correspondent Sheikh Nazir. The deceased who had retired as labour officer, was a noted social and political activist of the area and was associated
with National Conference for a long time. He was close aide of then NC general secretary late Sheikh Nazir Ahmed. The deceased was serving as block president NC for block Gund. “I knew
Sheikh sahib very closely. He was a man of great knowledge, besides a well-wisher of people,” former Sarpanch and one of his friends Ghulam Muhammad Raina said. Meanwhile, several social and
political organisations condoled the demise. Ghulam Ahmed Saloora of AIP, Bashir Ahmed Mir of PDP and Ajaz Ahmed Sheikh of Congress condoled the demise and prayed for peace to the departed
soul.
